NEXT STOP - Line 29: Metropolitan subsurface (WIP - DEMO)
A downloadable aimless wanderer for Windows
Next, stop - Line 29: Metropolitan subsurface (WIP) is a small, Yume Nikki inspired RPG-maker project, in which the player is left alone with their thoughts wandering the mostly empty carts of rail transport.
Mostly empty…
-------------------- ATTENTION PASSENGERS ------------------------------------
Dreamline 29 is not a real railway line. It is an urban myth and nothing you have to concern yourselves with. Please cease asking staff about how to find it, and do not not leave notebooks in our carts.

User 21: Just found this alert in my local metro station. Anyone know what this is all about?
User 404: Probably a prank.
Creepypasta2929: Actually, this originates from a creepypasta. Want to hear it?
User 21: Sure
Creepypasta2929: So. Dreamline 29, or Line 29, is a story about a double reversed circle route with a tail end, said to attract all sorts of lost stories and strange passengers.
You cannot board at a train station or metro platform. Instead, uncanny carts are claimed to appear seamlessly on the other side of often used doors in desolate places. The exact rules for it to appear are unknown. Some say you have to make sure to treat the door kindly, others say you have to not pay the fact that there is a door any mind at all, some say the person opening the door themselves must feel lost or be lost in daydreaming, but all sources agree that the door must be in a place devoid of other people. It has a higher chance to appear when the door works or looks similar to a door on Line 29. Some speculate it has something to do with an invisible in-between space. So basically, if you open your bedroom door, you could find an empty railway cart on the other side. Sometimes completely empty, sometimes with a notebook lying around.
If you do, simply close the door and reopen it, ignore its existence, and do not give in to any passengers on the other side that may invite you to talk. Don't be curious, don't go and pick up the notebook, just close it. Because, while only few claim to know of its existence and how to board it, no one knows how to leave. Those that took the line have never surfaced again.
This makes it most dangerous to traverse through old, mostly empty train or metro carts, since one may not realize they entered Line 29 before it is too late.
User 404: What even is a lost story?

What we worked on:
- Placeholder carts to get lost in
- Implemented transition system and library for introduction carts
Current goals:
- Finishing the introduction
- Remapping all carts
- Construct a first puzzle cart
- Working on a faux random experience, that guarantees the player will eventually find something interesting
- adding variability and randomness to carts
We will gradually work on implementing characters, more random-, ambient-, story- and puzzle-elements, while also keeping the air of simply wandering. The project is still in the early stages of figuring itself out, and we are in the process of figuring it out too.
Stick along for the ride if you’d like! The ticket to madness is free, however so costly!
